Women Finish 1st, Men Finish 3rd At Luther Invite

DECORAH, Iowa — Hamline men's and women's track and field turned in an outstanding performance at the Luther Invite, highlighted by multiple event wins, personal records, and strong depth across the track and field events. The women's team finished first place out of 7 teams and the men's team finished third out of 6 teams. 

The Pipers dominated the sprint events early, led by freshman Jukari Blackshere, who won the men's 60 meters with a personal-best time of 7.08 before adding a third-place finish and another PR in the 200 meters (23.37). On the women's side, sophomore Alexi Schneider captured the 60-meter title with a personal-best 8.04, while teammate Claire Siems followed closely in second with her own PR of 8.09. Schneider also placed second in the 200 meters (27.18) with another personal-best, while Siems took fourth in a season-best 27.98.

In the hurdles, junior Morris Suah placed second in the men's 60-meter hurdles (8.89), with Alan Haglin adding a fourth-place finish (9.35). The women's hurdlers were led by Marissa Albers, who placed fifth with a personal-best 10.76.

Hamline also had major success in the field events. Senior Austin Schloeder continued his strong season by winning the pole vault with a clearance of 4.53m, while junior Savannah Brown claimed the women's pole vault title at 3.03m. In the long jump, senior Andrei Pettis earned the victory with a personal-best leap of 6.04m, while freshman Mitchell Wilson finished second. Freshman Mabel Badejo added another strong showing with a third-place finish in the women's long jump (5.07m).

The throwers were once again led by senior Lexi Brainer, who won both the shot put (11.58m) and weight throw (16.27m). Sophomore Magenta Owens added a runner-up finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.04m. On the men's side, freshman Davian Vu placed fourth in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 13.17m, while Dillon Thurston earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw (14.21m).

On the track, the distance group also contributed key points, as junior Anabel Bradley won the women's 600 meters in a personal-best 1:40.11 and senior Alicia Maddux captured the 1,000 meters with a PR of 3:10.63. The men's 4x400 relay team also turned in a strong performance, placing third with a season-best time of 3:36.98.

Overall, Hamline put together one of its strongest meets of the indoor season, piling up points across nearly every event group and continuing to build momentum heading into the next competition at Carleton's Meet of the Hearts on Saturday, Feb. 14.
