The Piper football team opened 2017 on a high note, racking up 42 first half points en route to a 51-0 victory at Crown last Saturday. The offensive plaudits were many but there were just as many kudos for the HU defense, which posted its first shutout since 2009 and held the Storm to just 166 yards total offense.

Among the leaders in that regard was junior DB Jordan Deno. The Dodge Center, Minn. native led all HU tacklers with seven (three solo, four assists). One of those tackles was for a 13 yard loss. The seven tackles tied a career high set last year in a game at Concordia.

A year ago, Jordan was fourth overall on the Pipers with 45 stops -- 29 of which were solos.

Deno and the Pipers expect to be challenged Saturday when they travel to Macalester this Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. game. It's the battle for The Paint Bucket, an annual award that goes to the winner of the game. HU has won the past three contests.
