Track & Field Teams Win a Pair of Titles on Day One of MIAC Outdoor Championship

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The Hamline University track & field teams embarked on day one of the 2023 MIAC Outdoor Championship at Bethel University on Friday. The men sit in ninth place with 10 points, while the women are in eighth with 21 points. Saint John's leads the men's field with 79 points, and St. Olaf commands the women with 76 points.

The women won their third-consecutive MIAC Outdoor 4x800 Meter Relay Title courtesy of Lucy Hoelscher, Lindsey Bernardy, Katie Danielzuk, and Alexandra Maddux (9:29.31). This marks Hamline's fourth MIAC Women's Outdoor 4x800 Title in school history. Bernardy kept that momentum alive in the 400-meter run prelims with a second-place time of 59.03. The 800-meter run prelims was all Alexandra Maddux, who achieved fourth place with a 2:18.40. Grace Pierson cleared the bar at 2.85m in the pole vault en route to sixth place, while Molly Meyers kept the sixth-place trend alive in the shot put with a 12.08m.

Lizzie Green followed in seventh place in the pole vault with a 2.85m, while Katie Danielzuk crossed the finish line at 1:08.90 in the 400 meter hurdles en route to ninth place.

The men were led by Michael Braun, who claimed the MIAC Outdoor High Jump Title with a 1.92m. This is Hamline's first MIAC Outdoor High Jump Title since 2019 (Christian Velishek), and ninth in school history.

Joshua Thomsen notched a second-place time of 55.58 in the 400-meter hurdle prelims. Andrei Pettis achieved a pair of seventh-place marks in the 100-meter dash prelims (11.03), and the 200-meter dash prelims (22.08).

The Pipers will embark on day two of the MIAC Outdoor Championship tomorrow, Saturday, May 13 at 12 p.m.
