Maddux Wins Women's 800-Meter Run Title on Day Two of MIAC Outdoor Championship

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The Hamline University track & field teams embarked on day two of the 2023 MIAC Outdoor Championship in Arden Hills, Minnesota (Bethel) on Saturday afternoon. The women registered a sixth-place score of 58 points, while the men took ninth place with 31 points. Saint John's (Minn.) (216 points) took home the men's title, and Gustavus Adolphus (154.50 points) won the women's championship.

Alexandra Maddux took home the MIAC Women's Outdoor 800-Meter Run Title with a time of 2:11.89. She became Hamline's third MIAC Women's Outdoor 800-Meter Run Champion, and the first since Betsy Hansen in 1991. Lindsey Bernardy notched a fourth-place time of 59.01 in the 400-meter dash finals. Maddux, Bernardy, along with Ashley Grabau and Lucy Hoelscher claimed fifth place in the 4x400 meter relay with a mark of 4:09.93.

The discus was all Madison Reed, who prevailed with a third-place toss of 39.68m. Jade Hunt followed Reed in sixth place with a 37.72m, while Desirae Dates took seventh with a 36.24m. Lexi Brainer prevailed in the hammer, where she took fifth place with a 46.37m. Reed trailed Brainer with a sixth-place toss of 45.60m.

Katie Danielzuk participated in the 400-meter hurdle finals, where she took ninth place with a 1:09.37.

The men were led by Joshua Thomsen's third-place time of 54.55 in the 400-meter hurdle finals. Michael Braun continued his dominate ways as he took fourth place in the triple jump with a 13.34m. Andrei Pettis also dominated in the 100-meter dash finals, where he registered sixth place with a 11.06.

Seventh place was in the cards for Pettis (22.31) in the 200-meter dash finals, and Oliver Engstrom (4.10m) in the pole vault.

Select Pipers will compete in last chance meets over the next week with hopes of qualifying for the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship on May 25-27 in Rochester, New York.
