It's rare for somebody to make the MIAC All-Conference and All-Rookie teams in the same season. It's even rarer for that person to lead the league in goals scored.

But Hamline's Bre Simon accomplished this nifty trick. The Elk River, Minn. native was doubly honored last week in a vote by the league's coaches. She showed them why this was a good move last Friday when she scored the lone HU goal in a 6-1 MIAC playoff game loss at St. Thomas.

It was Simon's 17th goal of the season and 26th point -- tops on the Pipers, who finished the season 12-13-1 -- their best record in a decade.

Simon started the season strong with two goals and two assists in her very first game -- a 5-2 win over Concordia (WI). She went on to get a goal in her first five games -- and kept on attacking opposing goalies all season. She was the only MIAC player to score two shorthanded goals this season. The offensive prowess helped Bre to a final mark of +7 -- the second best plus-minus on the team.

The 17 goals are the most by a Piper puckster since Sara Mickelson set the school of 20 in 2005-06.

Her linemate Darby Dodds was close behind with 16 goals. Both will be back next year for coach Natalie Darwitz.
